The Earl of Kildare
Celia de Fréine wrote the libretto for the opera The Earl of Kildare. This opera, in three acts, was composed by Fergus Johnston. Set during the period June, 1534 to February, 1537, it explores the political career of Thomas Fitzgerald, the Tenth Earl of Kildare, known as Silken Thomas.
In 2009 Living Opera, in association with Opera Ireland, presented a showcase performance of the opera at the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray.
